Rumsfeld Matrix

Confidently understand your blindspots through defining known and unknown risks

The Rumsfeld Matrix is a tool that can be used to help make decisions. It is based on the idea that there are four different types of risk: known knowns, known unknowns, unknown knowns, and unknown unknowns.

Each quadrant of the matrix is associated with a different level of risk. The known knowns are things that you are aware of and understand. These are the risks that you are comfortable with and know how to deal with. The known unknowns are things that you are aware of but do not understand. These are the risks that you are not comfortable with but know how to deal with. The unknown knowns are things that you are not aware of but understand. These are the risks that you are comfortable with but do not know how to deal with. The unknown unknowns are things that you are neither aware of nor understand. These are the risks that you are not comfortable with and do not know how to deal with.

When making a decision, it is important to consider all four quadrants of the matrix. The level of risk associated with each quadrant will help you to determine how comfortable you are with the decision, and whether or not you have the knowledge and experience to deal with it.

If you are faced with a known known, then you can proceed with confidence, knowing that you understand the risks and are comfortable with them. If you are faced with a known unknown, then you can proceed with caution, knowing that there are risks involved but trusting that you have the knowledge and experience to deal with them. If you are faced with an unknown known, then you should proceed with caution, knowing that there are risks involved but trusting that you have the knowledge and experience to deal with them. If you are faced with an unknown unknown, then you should proceed with caution, knowing that there are risks involved but trusting that you have the knowledge and experience to deal with them.
